6th ISAP International Symposium
Controversies and New Concepts in Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics (PK/PD) of Antiinfective Agents
a post-ICAAC 1999 meeting, September 29th-30th, San Francisco, CA
Organizers: Paul M. Tulkens (Brussels, Belgium) and H. Derendorf (Gainesville, FL)

Goals and Objectives - Programme

Goals and objectives

One of the main goals of ISAP is to be a forum for presenting new concepts and new data pertaining to the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of antiinfective agents.  The concepts and data are then discussed in depth by ISAP members and may, possibly, become part of the basic aspects of antiinfective chemotherapy.  They may then be used by other researchers, by clinicians, and by regulators interested in bringing these concepts into their area of activity.  By doing this, we can indeed all help in achieving the goal of obtaining maximal therapeutic efficacy while reducing the risks of encountering drug exposure-related adverse events.  Yet, these new concepts and data must be validated, which is one the main activty of ISAP.

Over the years, the symposium which ISAP tries to hold just after of before the Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy (ICAAC) has become specifically devoted to this type "New concept/New data" discussion meeting (see the sections "Past meetings and activities" and "Forthcoming meetings" for other post ICAAC meetings as well as for other types of activities such as co-sponsored symposia and workshops).  This year's meeting has been no exception to this rule and the programme will focus both on controversial issues, where new data and discussions are needed, as well as on the presentation of the  and pharmacokinetics pharmacodynamics of new agents.

The focus of the programme was on a real, in depth discussion among all participants based on presentations meant to be informative, and even sometimes provocative, but concentrating always on new concepts and data at the cutting edge of the Science of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics.
