One of
the main goals of ISAP is to be a forum for presenting new concepts and
new data pertaining to the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of antiinfective
agents. These new concepts and data which may, possibly, become part
of the basic aspects of antiinfective chemotherapy.
Over the years, the symposium which ISAP has held just after of before the Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy (ICAAC) has become specifically devoted to this type "New concept/New data" discussion meeting (see the sections "Past meetings and activities" and "Forthcoming meetings" for other post-ICAAC meetings as well as for other types of activities such as co-sponsored symposia and workshops). This year's meeting was no exception to this rule and the programme has foced both on controversial issues, where new data and discussions are needed, as well as on the presentation of the and pharmacokinetics pharmacodynamics of new agents. Ample time was devoted to an in depth discussion among all participants based on presentations, each of them being informative, and even sometimes provocative, but concentrating always on new concepts and data at the cutting edge of the Science of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. In parallel to the main session, posters were on display for the whole duration of the meeting. A "Young Investigator" fellowship was awarded to J.M. Michot, Pharm. (Brussels, Belgium) for a poster on fluoroquinolone efflux from eucaryotic cells.
