The
Branderburger gate: this triumphal gate, erected in 1789 by architect
Carl Gotthard Langhans after the Propyleaeum of the Partenon in Athens,
was one of the main access to central Berlin. From 1961, however,
it became a symbol of division, being almost part of the Wall that separated
the East and West Berlin, untill it was reopened in 1989.
